Terms of Service

Last Updated: January 2026

Effective Date: January 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Piccolo Music Reader (“App”), you acknowledge and agree to be legally bound by all terms and conditions contained herein, as well as our Privacy Policy (available at https://fsoftt.github.io/PiccoloReader/privacy-policy).

If you do not agree to these Terms of Service, do not use the App.

Your continued use of Piccolo Music Reader constitutes your acceptance of these terms.

2. License Grant

2.1 Limited License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

  • Download and install Piccolo Music Reader on authorized devices
  • Use the App for personal, non-commercial music sheet reading and annotation
  • Access our documentation and support resources

2.2 Restrictions

You may NOT:

  • Use the “Piccolo Reader” name, logo, or icon in a way that suggests your version is the official app or is endorsed by fsoftt
  • Remove copyright and license notices from the source code
  • Access the App through automated means (bots, scrapers)
  • Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws
  • Attempt to bypass security features or access unauthorized areas
  • Piccolo Music Reader Source Code: Copyright © 2026 fsoftt. Licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). You may use, study, modify, and redistribute the source code under the terms of that license. See the LICENSE file in https://github.com/fsoftt/PiccoloReader
  • Name, Logo, and Icon: The name “Piccolo Reader” (and “Piccolo Music Reader”), the logo, and the app icon are NOT granted by the GPL-3.0 license and remain reserved by fsoftt. Modified versions must use a different name and branding
  • Open Source Components: Licensed under their respective licenses
  • Your Digital Content: See Section 3 (Your Responsibility for Content)

The GPL-3.0 license applies to the source code. Apart from the rights it grants, you acknowledge and agree that no title or ownership in the App, its name, logo, or icon is transferred to you.

3. Your Responsibility for Content

3.1 Content You Import

You are solely responsible for:

  • All PDF files, music sheets, and documents you import into Piccolo Music Reader
  • Ensuring you have legal rights to import and store these files
  • Complying with copyright laws in your jurisdiction
  • Not importing or storing materials that are:
    • Copyrighted (unless you own the rights or have permission)
    • Illegal in your country
    • Infringing on third-party intellectual property
    • Pornographic, defamatory, or hateful
    • In violation of music licensing agreements (DMCA, etc.)

3.2 We Are Not Liable for Your Content

We do NOT:

  • Monitor, review, or curate your imported files
  • Store, backup, or transmit your PDF files
  • Have access to your library or annotations
  • Accept responsibility for content you import

If your imported materials infringe on copyright:

  • Legal liability falls on YOU, not on fsoftt or our developers
  • Third parties cannot pursue copyright claims against us (we don’t distribute your files)
  • You agree to indemnify fsoftt from copyright claims related to your imported content

Piccolo Music Reader is a reading tool, not a distribution platform.

Important:

  • Sheet Music: If you import copyrighted sheet music, ensure you have rights to view it locally
  • DMCA (US): Removing copy protection or DRM on protected sheets may violate the DMCA
  • Music Licensing: If you perform music from imported sheets, you may need:
    • Performance rights (PROs like ASCAP, BMI, SESAC)
    • Mechanical licenses (for recordings)
    • Sync licenses (for videos/broadcasts)
    • These are separate from viewing rights
  • Educational Use: Educational exceptions may apply in some jurisdictions; consult local copyright law

This limitation applies to all claims, regardless of nature.

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability. If local law prohibits these limitations, liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
